Day 12

It rained and the wind whistled all night long.  When I woke up, I would make sure the tent was still upright.  Temps were in the low 40's and the weather forecast for today was suppose to be much more of the same.  Rain and yuck!  I scrambled to get breakfast out of the bear box and took it to the kids and Brad in the tent.  We talked about our options for the day.  It was obvious that we couldn't spend the day on the lake, so we called our hotel in Salt Lake City (our next stop) to see if we could get in early.  It was good to go.  It took us a while to pack up everything in the rain.

The kids saying bye to the camp.
A shot of one of the coves on Lake Tahoe.  Disgusting!
With all the rain (much needed in this area that is in danger of wild fires every year) in the mountains came these beautiful water falls down into the lake.
We were at this exact spot in July of 2007 witnessing my brother in law Mark marry Amanda.  Even though it was rainy and gloomy, it was still beautiful!

Once we left, we had about a 9 hour drive to Salt Lake City.  Straight through Nevada we saw the most amazing dust storm.  We watched it develop over the course of 2 hours.  So cool.  Luckily, it wasn't going across the highway.
We hit Utah at about sunset and crossed the Great Salt Lake Desert.  Once the sun set, the moon reflected off the vast white salt spanning hundreds of miles and it looked like you were driving across water.  A straight road for over 50 miles.  No exits, no places to stop.  Finally arriving in our hotel in Salt Lake City.  We are going to sleep well tonight!
